History of EPS
The idea of establishing the Egyptian Society of Plant Pathology originated at the Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University, spearheaded by the late Dr. Abbas Fathi El-Hilali, Professor of Plant Pathology, alongside his colleagues from the Faculties of Agriculture at Cairo University and Ain Shams University, as well as research centers and the Ministry of Agriculture.
The establishment began in early 1966 with the formation of the founding assembly, which drafted the Society’s bylaws, officially registered it, and approved its activities in the United Arab Republic.
The general assembly subsequently elected the first Board of Directors, which held its inaugural meeting on August 25, 1966, at the Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University. Following its establishment, the Society joined the Egyptian Scientific Union as an active member.
Later, the Society’s headquarters were relocated to the Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University, where the late Professor Dr. Mustafa Mohamed Fahim assumed the presidency.
In 1969, the Society published the first issue of the Egyptian Journal of Phytopathology, highlighting the latest research from specialized scholars.
